Premium Crease Pad - Big Shot tutorial

I was die cutting 18 little envelopes for my upcoming workshop on Saturday (hi Stacey!), and I noticed that I was not getting a real great score mark all the way around on the little Scallop Envelope Bigz die from Stampin' Up!.  Luckily, last night there was some discussion on a yahoo list and 2 demonstrators helped me to figure out how to use the PREMIUM CREASE PAD to get better score marks on this die. (Thanks, Nancy and Kerry!).

This applies to ALL OF THE DIES WITH SCORE lines, such as the envelope die, the pillow box, the 5-point star, petal card and 3-d circle ornaments.

I thought a step by step photo tutorial might be helpful to those of you who have not used the Premium Crease Pad.. so ... here it goes..

Side Note: for the Scallop Envelope Bigz Die, I thought I'd let you know that I'm using Maine Blueberry DSP from Stampin' Up!, cut to 5"x5-1/2".

STEP 1: place BOTH of the opaque plastic shim pieces from the Premium Crease pad package on top of the clear Standard Cutting Pad.

Step 1

(thanks to my awesome son for the photos!)

STEP 2: Place the Scallop Envelope Bigz die - foam side up - on top of the white plastic shim pieces (being careful to get it exactly centered over the plastic pieces).

Step 2

STEP 3: place your cardstock or DSP on the die.. I like to place the part you want as the "outside' of the envleope FACE DOWN (notice in the finished sample, these squares will end up in the inside of the env.)

Step 3

STEP 4: Place the Premium Crease Pad on top of the paper or cardstock.

Step 4

This becomes your "sandwich". (If you are hungry, I'd suggest Kinders or Quizno's though) :)

STEP 5: Roll your "sandwich" through the Big Shot.

Step 5

STEP 6: As you take the "sandwich" out of the Big Shot, and take the Crease Pad off, you'll see the die has cut the envelope shape perfectly and made the 4 crease/score lines!

Step 6

STEP 7: When you flip it over you'll see how nicely those score marks show up!

Step 7

Step 8

Step 8: Fold up the envelope and add it to a card or gift and enjoy!

Step 9

Step 10

Whew.. hope that was helpful.. I sure needed it! :)

EDITED TO ADD 8-21-08: CLICK HERE for an instruction sheet on the crease pad.  Although it shows the Big Kick, the layering process is the same for the Stampin' Up! Big Shot.

Sunflower Convention Swap card

CONVENTION is coming... time for more Convention swaps!!!!  I was totally inspired by Jill's adorable card HERE, and decided I needed to make a swap card using her super cute flower idea!  WAY too cute, Jill!!!

So I made a pile of flowers... a "paper flower garden"...

Sunflower 3

(I actually ended up making 2x this many!!) :)

Then I made it into this card with Chocolate Chip, Kiwi Kiss and Apricot Appeal cardstock:

Sunflower 1

I used the "Punches Plus" brass template and the paper piercer to add an oval of holes around the punched out greeting.

Sunflower 2

The flowers are super easy to make.. punch out Apricot cardstock with the Scallop Circle punch and then snip between each petal with Stampin' Up! Paper Snips!

Sunflower 4

(thanks to my son for the fabulous photo!)

The flower centers are punched with the 1" circle punch out of the Bella Rose paper, and the Kiwi Kiss polka dot paper is also from the Bella Rose Stampin' Up! Designer Series Paper pack!

If you'd like to know how to make the fun corrugated leaves, check my previous blog post HERE.

Have a FABULOUS day!

Double Pull-Out Book - class project

We had such a fun time in our stamping class today!! We made Double Pull Out Books using Stampin' Up! Designer Series papers. Each student picked their own paper ahead of time. The tutorial for this project was featured on SCS this week, so THANK YOU Corinne for saving me the time in not having to come up with the handout all on my own! :)

Today I'm showing you the 2 projects I made, and I'll feature the student's projects on Tuesday.

I used WESTERN SKY designer paper for this one:

Western sky 1

Western sky 2

(click on any image to make them bigger)

Western sky 3

And I used AFTERNOON TEA designer paper for this one:

Aft tea 1

Aft tea 2

 Aft tea 3

Did ya catch that cute little star pattern on the extreme left and right squares?? I actually figured this out by myself.. TOOOOOOOO cool:

Aft tea corners

Use the Photo Corner Punch to punch out 4 green corners and layer then onto your 2-3/4" square and you get that TOTALLY COOL STAR DESIGN!

Open End Envelope gift card holder

Here is another one of the projects we'll be making at Valerie's Stampin' Up! workshop today.  I hope the gals like it.  I think it's a REALLY FUN idea!  My friend Jan sent me a sample similar to THIS, and that's where I got the idea. THANKS JAN!

Here are the front covers (see below for supplies):

Envelope gc holder covers

And here is how you make them... take a Kraft Open-End envelope (pg 167 in the Stampin' Up! catalog) and open the flap, now fold it in 1/2, close the flap, and decorate... could that be any easier?

Envelope gc holder 3

Envelope gc holder 2

To make the gift card holder insert, use your Slit punch (pg 181) and punch 2 slits in your 3x3 scrap for the gift card to fit into.

Decorate with Hodgepodge hardware, jumbo eyelets, rhinestone brads, punches, and Western Sky Designer Paper from Stampin' Up! for a great gift card holder perfect for dads, grads, or birthdays!

5 Fun Free Project - part 3

Here is one more card my gals made at their 5 Fun Free event on May 17th.

It's a 3x6 card in Bashful Blue, using some of the Summer Picnic designer papers that have been neglected - at least in my house these prints were neglected.  I like how this combo turned out!

5 fun free thank you cars

The blue flower in the center is punched out of the Summer Picnic paper as well.

"Thank You Much" is from "Block Party" on pg 32.  I've mounted them separately... see THIS POST.

Check it out samp98c04ea8ae037575 Here's a HOT TIP for you ... to color the center of the Silver Hodgepodge brads, I simply used a fine point Sharpee marker!!

We've done the crystal effects mixed with reinker (see HERE), but this is really easy for just a small added dash of color!!

Have a great weekend!

Popsicle Card

What a fun card for any occasion this summer!!  I got this idea from my upline, Sandy Hancock.

You could make this in any fun, summery color.. how about a lime popsicle?  Or a chocolate fudge bar!?  :)  yum!

Popcicle card

Popcicle card open

The "how to's":

Only Orange cardstock: cut to 4"x5" and score in 1/2.  Use the corner rounder on 3 corners and the Scallop punch on the upper right corner.

Whisper White cardstock: cut to 2-1/4" x 3-3/4". Use same corner rounding/punching as above.

Popcicle card scallop

To insert the popsicle stick, punch 2 holes with the Horizontal Slot punch:

Popcicle card punched 2

Popcicle card stick

Stamp the white piece first, then put Stampin' Dimensionals on the back of the white piece and put it over the stick:

Fun option for the Pumpkin Pie striped ribbon.. run your YoYo Yellow marker along 1/2 of it to customize the colors:

Build A Brad Bracelets! WAY too fun!

UPDATE: a kit in the mail is available for this project - see THIS POST.

Wow.. WAY too fun!  I usually, almost always, ok, ALWAYS get really excited about any new project I'm working on ...  I'd been noticing the Build A Brad bracelets on other stampers blogs and was anxious to try them out, but most of them used jump rings between each Build a Brad and I thought that sounded like a lot of work (and not so easy with my pathetic eyesight).  So, as I was explaining this idea to my partner in crime friend, Sharon, she suggested looking for some chain that we could just attach the Build A Brad directly to!!  VOILA.. Sharon you are BRILLIANT! :)

2_bracelets

So.. here is the saga (and a few tips for assembly) of my Build a Brad bracelets.. enjoy! :)

Below:  a finished "Cutie Pie" Build A Brad bracelet, with the chain ready for bracelet #2.  I've got my Build A Brads ready to go (center of photo)....

Cutie_pie_plus_chain

After you have made your brads, put the legs through one of the links of chain, and spread the legs apart:

Open_brad_legs

Then using needle nose jewelry plyers, tuck each leg under the ring of the chain and "crimp" it down to secure it in place.

Bend_brad_leg

Then the back should look like this (really difficult to take a close up photo of something SO shiney!):
Bent_brad_legs_2

Close up of the right side. I alternated Rhinestone brads with Build A Brads on the Cutie Pie bracelet. Have you guessed what I used for the 2nd bracelet??

Bracelets

Answer: I used the Lucky Star Accents & Elements tin for the 1/2" circles in the Build A Brads on bracelet #2 !!

Supplies

Here is a close up of the chain packaging.. purchased at Michaels:

Chain_close_up

OK... so then... I couldn't leave the 2nd bracelet alone... I HAD to add some fun bangles that I got at Michaels yesterday... I love it !

Whew... does that get an award for longest blog post?  LOL

I'm Dumpster Diving!

Dsc00747_4   Oh my gosh.. I can't believe this.. I'm Dumpster Diving... well.. it's in MY OWN recycle bin.. so I guess it's not THAT bad...

BUT I HAD TO DO IT... WHY? Because.. I saw this really fun tip at my friend Michelle's meeting on Saturday.. she used the 1-3/8" circle punch to punch out around the Die Cut Bloom images and guess what.. I had JUST put a bunch of these sheets in my recycle bin a couple days before I left to go to Michelle's meeting!

So I promptly dug them out of my nearly empty recycle bin and now I can punch out my own really cute flowers!

Check it out!

Dsc00748

Michelle layered them onto a punched out scallop piece and then decorated notepads for us to use during the meeting!!  Too stinkin' cute, don't you think?

Dsc00750

I just KNEW when Sharon said, "are you sure you don't want to save these?" that there was some reason I shouldn't dump them in the recycle bin....  aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!  :)

Happy May Day !

More with Carousel Notes & Classy Brass

My "Pick a Petal" Classy Brass template (pg 187) arrived yesterday so I HAD to play with it today!  The outside of it coordinates with the Carousel notes!  Hmm.. wonder what else Stampin' Up! has been keeping from us!  LOL

Here are the tools I used:

Paper Piercing tool and mat, brass template, Carousel Notes and 1/8" handheld punch.

Dsc09611

TIP: I found that to speed things up, you can pierce and/or punch through TWO Carousel notes at once!  yahoo!  I used some Scotch Magic tape (clear tape) to hold the template and 2 notes together while punching/piercing.  And yes, the 1/8" handheld punch does go through the holes in the template.. you don't have to mark them and then punch.

Dsc09613

I added some holes to the scallops on my Carousel Note Card Purse.. tooooo cute!

Dsc09614

And here is a quick Thank You card I made with the Afternoon Tea DSP, Carousel Notes and some SAB Rub-Ons:

Dsc09617

Dsc09618

Another TIP: I learned about sponging over the rub-ons from my ROCKIN' friend Dawn's tutorial HERE

Have fun stampin' today!

Fun Find: Star Wheel and Star Punch

In my last Stamp A Stack class (here) we stamped a card using the Classic Stars Jumbo Wheel (pg 112) and the 2 sizes of Stampin' Up! Star punches.

Star_sample

I played with the wheel and punches to see if the images could be punched out with the 2 star punches and VOILA.. yes, they can!  yahooo SU!

Sorry they are a little hard to see, you can click on the image to make it larger.

Oh TOO cute! Colored Ribbon Slides!

I'm having TOO MUCH FUN !!!

Last night I turned THIS:                     into THIS:

Blog_slides Blog_colored_slides

These are the new Ribbon Slides that come in the Styled Silver Hodgepodge kit in the Occasions mini catalog:

Hardware_close_up

Sooooo.. how do you do it??  That's the fun part.. cuz it's SO STINKIN' EASY!! :)

Mix some Crystal Effects with about 2 drops of reinker.. ANY COLOR!! and then "paint" it into the depressed area of the Ribbon Slide... I used a little plastic "stir stick" (like from a "drink".. don't know where I could have obtained that! LOL - probably a souvenir from the last SU! cruise!), or you can use a toothpick.. something small and disposable is great.

Blog_paint_slides

Warning.. when are these NOT so cute??  Answer: when one flips off your table UPSIDEDOWN on your new capri pants... WET RED CRYSTAL EFFECTS.. YIKES!!  Solution:  Grab your Staz On CLEANER and dab the bright red stain on your pants, then wash them immediately.. voila.. no more stain! :)  YEAH Staz On Cleaner!

So then check this out.. they look soooooooooooo cute on a project!! (Ruby Red Reinker was used on the project below)

Blog_slide_on_journal

How I set up my Stamp Classes

Many demonstrators have asked how I set up my classes and accomodate so many stampers.  I used to rent a community center for my classes, but the cost got to be too high, so I have been holding classes at home for several years.  Here in California, we don't have basements, so we use the garage.. we park the cars outside on class days, and my husband sets up 5 tables for me.  My classes are either on Monday and Tuesday nights, or 2x on a Saturday (each class is repeated 2x).

EDITED TO ADD 2-27-08:  Several of you have asked about pricing on my classes.. this Stamp A Stack was $15.  You can click on the STAMP CLASS SCHEDULE in the left column of this blog to see my current class schedule, descriptions, pricing, times, etc., to give you a better idea of those details. Thanks for all your interest!

Here are 2 of the tables set up yesterday for last night's Stamp A Stack Class - Stampin' Up! 11x17 Grid sheets at each stamping space:

Project_tables

Close up of one project table set up and ready to go:

Project_at_table

I usually have one project per table, with the cardstock all cut for that project:

Cut_pieces

All the stamps, punches, etc., are in the middle of the table.  Tools like Snail, bone folder, punches, etc., are in a small caddy in the center of each table (Caddy from Staples):

Tool_caddy

I have an additional table set up with a display board, 3-D samples, catalogs, order forms, wish list, etc.:

And here are some of the ladies having fun last night:

Stamping

And we had a brand new stamper last night too!  Joy (left) brought Bonnie... welcome, Bonnie!

I am repeating my Stamp  A Stack tonight and again on Wed. morning!  Everyone enjoys going home with 10 cards!  I'll post the finished cards tomorrow.

If you have any questions, let me know.
