Brayered Roses Technique and VIDEO!
April 28, 2009
Do you see a THEME starting to develop with my 6x6 Technique Book class this week?? Like... ROSES?? Manhattan Floral, Fifth Avenue Floral... :)
Here is project #2... I THINK I actually thought of this all by myself.. as far as I know you can call this a PATTY BENNETT ORIGINAL!
BRAYERED ROSES
Brayered Roses
Create beautiful softly shaded roses using the Brayer.
Technique by Patty Bennett
Supplies:
· Textured Impressions Die – Manhattan Flower from Stampin’ Up!
· Big Shot, Multipurpose Platform, clear cutting pads
· Shimmery White Cardstock
· Brayer
· 2 to 3 coordinating colors – classic ink pads
· scissors
Directions:
1. Emboss the Manhattan Flower die onto Shimmery White cardstock with the Multipurpose platform and the Big Shot
2. Turn the finished image over so the raised portion is facing DOWN onto your work surface
3. Ink your brayer in one color (I used Regal Rose) and then ROLL OFF much of the ink onto scrap paper
4. Roll remaining ink onto “debossed” rose image (raised portion facing DOWN) – in a “hit and miss” fashion – do NOT try to cover the image entirely with color
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 with a 2nd color – I used Summer Sun
6. Cut image out and adhere to your card or project
You are done! Isn’t that quick and easy and BEAUTIFUL!? J
VIDEO TUTORIAL:
Now.. go make one! :)
What fun new technique, I will definitely have to try this one. It has so many of my favorite items in it, the manhattan flower and shimmery paper. What a beautiful Mother's day card this would be. Thanks for sharing! Your blog is the first I visit everyday. Tonya

Fabulous Patty - I love seeing the written instructions with the additional video!
Question - how did you do the green leaves?
Thanks.

Lovely, Patty! Very pretty. Some of my favorite techniques involve brayering and/or sponging. And congrats on inventing an original technique, too - and for branding it with a name. The techniques I've accidentally invented over the years I've tended to call mistakes - until later on someone gave it a name, called it a "technique", and made it famous, lol!

Thanks for sharing your Technique class with us. I will be trying this technique as soon as I get home tonight!
I didn't have the Shimmery White paper for the watercolor technique (ran out) so I used the watercolor paper. Came out fabulous! Can't wait to try it on the shimmery paper.
Great original idea/technique.

I just love what you did. It really makes the rose pop out so much more then just having it embossed. Thanks for sharing this awesome new technique with us!

Great video, thanks for sharing! Wish I had thought of labeling my 2 brayers in my class last week (different technique with the folder)- they did wind up getting mixed up & the darker inked brayer wound up transfering ink to the lighter pad.
I was sitting here slapping my forhead when you mentioned that-lol.

Great video Patty! Thank you for taking the time to make and share it!
When you emboss the Shimmery White cardstock, does it matter which side will become the recessed side? Does that make sense? Is it crucial that the side you're going to brayer is the shimmery side?
Thanks!

Patty,
I love the Manhattan Flower Texture die. Everyone will want this one, and the price is right. I did something simular using sponges, but the brayer is so much better, especially on shimmery card stock. Now I have to find a leaf, I think I sold all my retired ones. Wish the Fifth Avenue floral had one.
Thank you for doing the video, that always helps.
Posted by: Marge | April 28, 2009 at 11:23 AM
How beautiful! My texture die is on back order --- oh my. I will have time to think of the color variations I want to do. Thank you so much for sharing this great technique.
