Cherry Blossom Paper Lantern cards

Japanese Paper Lanterns

When I was a little girl, ok wait, let me back up .. . BEFORE I was born, my parents lived in Japan for a few years while my dad served in the US Army.  They grew to love and appreciate the beauty and traditions in Japan.  When I was a little girl, one of  my fondest memories was going with my mom and dad and brother to the Japanese Cherry Blossom Festival at the Buddist Temple in Pasadena, CA where I grew up.  I remember the gorgeous trees in bloom, all the paper lanterns, the beautiful ladies in Kimonos, the dances, the drummers, and my FAVORITE part, the teriyaki chicken skewers! :)

Happy-congratulations-paper-lanterns-cherry-blossomsWhen I saw this stamp set from Stampin' Up! (called Happy Congratulations) I knew that I wanted to make a card with the lanterns over one of the cherry blossom photos that I took in our neighborhood this spring.

So I printed out some of the Cherry Blossom photos, stamped on vellum with the StazOn black ink pad and then added the colorful 'paper lanterns'.  What do you think?

I tried a few variations... the one above has softer colors that were "stamped off" onto my scratch paper before I stamped them and punched them out with the 3/4" circle punch.

The card below was brighter featuring the lanterns that were stamped with the full color (Calypso Coral, Blushing Bride, Pear Pizzazz and Bermuda Bay)

And below.. this one has all Blushing Bride paper lanterns for a softer effect.

I stamped all the lanterns on scrap strips of Whisper White cardstock and punched them out with the 3/4" circle punch, then added them to the vellum with Stampin' Dimensionals.

Patty the card is very pretty. Yes, When I was a little girl I did visit. It is a pretty site. Even the cherry blossoms in D.C. are wonderful. Which I did live. Thanks for sharing.
