Birthday Card Ideas from the Stamping Cruise

Hi! and thank you for joining me today!  I have a cute (cute cute cute!) Happy Birthday card idea to share with you today!!!  Remember that stamping cruise I just went on in October? Well, this was one of the darling cards we made during our 18 hours of crafting time!!

Birthday card idea featuring Stampin' Up! Falling Flowers stamp set and Writing Notes background stamp.

This birthday card features the Stylized Birthday (single stamp) from pg 16 of the Stampin' Up! 2016/2017 annual catalog (#141828) and one of my favorites, the Writing Notes background stamp (pg 124, #1388954 / 138664).  I love any lined paper or graph paper, so this stamp is right up my alley!

Birthday card idea featuring Stampin' Up! Falling Flowers stamp set and Writing Notes background stamp.

When creating a card on white cardstock, you'll want to make sure you use the THICK Whisper White cardstock (#140272) so that it has nice stability.

As you can see below, we stamped the marvelous Falling Flowers floral stamp set in Crushed Curry, Bermuda Bay and Pumpkin Pie on Whisper White cardstock, then die cut all the pieces with the matching May Flowers Framelits.  At first I thought it seemed like it would be a lot of work, but it's only a couple pieces per card and it makes such a big difference to have the pieces die cut, doesn't it!??  I love it!

You can SAVE 10% by buying the stamp set and framelits together (it's called a BUNDLE).  See it HERE, or on pg 127 in the current annual catalog.

Stamping on the 2016 stamp and scrap cruise! Birthday card idea featuring Stampin' Up! Falling Flowers stamp set and Writing Notes background stamp.

After stamping the flowers and leaves, we just blended the color with a Blender Pen... just "color over" the stamped image while it's still just a little wet and it just blends the colors perfectly without the need for any more ink.

I embellished the centers of my flowers with the gold Metallic Enamel shapes, which enhanced this nice fall color combo!

Birthday card idea featuring Stampin' Up! Falling Flowers stamp set and Writing Notes background stamp.

The polkadot piece of Bermuda Bay paper in the background is found in the Designer Series paper pack / Brights, #138434... there are actually 4 patterns of Bermuda Bay paper in that pack and if you look at the first photo in this blog post, you'll see I used all 4 patterns :)

Jenn (the crafting cruise organizer) designed 10 cards for us to make, and we made four of each, so if you do the math, that's 40 cards that we created in addition to all the other projects!!!  You can see more info here!

Totally Trees Palm Tree at the Beach!

I hope you enjoy this card idea featuring the Stampin' Up! Totally Trees stamp set.  This card kind of reminds me of our recent cruise to the Caribbean.. lots of palm trees and beautiful blue ocean!

I stamped the palm trees, sand and sun directly onto the Serene Scenery designer paper that has a printed pattern that reminds me of the beach!

I guess I'm just not ready for Fall yet, because I really love this summery card!! :)

The pretty background sunburst paper pattern is from the Festive Birthday paper pack, #141630

Yep, Wink of Stella is pretty much my secret weapon of choice these days... isn't it pretty how it just lights up the sunset on the water above?  I used the Gold Wink of Stella on the Sun and the Clear Wink of Stella on the water.

For a closer look at these amazing Serene Scenery paper patterns, see my photos below and THIS VIDEO.

Sheltering Tree Happy Fall!

Remember this stamp set? Sheltering Tree!  I LOVE this set.. I couldn't stop using it when it first debuted in the Occasions Stampin Up! catalog a couple years ago!!

I decided to try a Fall card with this set and I love how it turned out!  The background is easy!  Create this sunset look by lightly brayering ink using the Stampin' UP! Sponge Brayer with Cajun Craze and Daffodil Delight ink! Let the 2 colors blend in the middle!

Stampin' Up! Sheltering Tree fall sunset card created with Sponge Brayer background by Patty Bennett

I stamped the leaves of the tree in several colors: Cajun Craze, Calypso Coral, Crushed Curry and Pumpkin Pie. I just kept adding layers of stamped leaves until I was happy with the effect.  The ground stamp is also in this stamp set and I stamped it over and over in Cajun Craze ink.

I think the tree trunk is kind of the key to this card... rather than have the trunk and branches all one dark color, I inked the whole stamp in Early Espresso, then lightly stamped ink off the branch portion on my grid sheet, then stamped the whole stamp on my Whisper White cardfront.  That way the branches appear to be mixed in among the leaves and not so dark like the branches are on top.   Hope that makes sense?

Sheltering Tree stamp set is found on page 96 in the annual 2016 Stampin' UP! Catalog,  #137163.

If you are wondering about the pretty watercolored leaves, WATCH THE VIDEO HERE to see how I created those!

Stampin' Up! Sheltering Tree fall sunset card created with Sponge Brayer background by Patty Bennett

The "Thoughts for you" greeting is found in the Best Birds stamp set, pg 53 of the 2016 Annual catalog.  I added a Cajun Craze enamel heart to the greeting to express some extra love to the recipient, punched the end with the Banner Triple punch and mounted it onto my card with Stampin' Dimensionals.

Special Offer from Patty - Note Card Gift Box

Note Cards in a Box!

See special offer below for the first 10 people to place their order!

Floral Boutique Note Cards in a repurposed Project Life Box. Great for gift giving! Butterfly thinlit accents in Shimmery White and Night of Navy. by Patty Bennett

What a GREAT gift to give at the holidays or any time of year - a box filled with lovingly handcrafted, stamped note cards!!  I used my empty Project Life card box and filled it up with cards and envelopes!  And it's a great way to repurpose the box if you organize your Project Life cards in a different way (here is what I do).

You may remember THIS POST where I made a box of thank you cards for my niece as a shower gift, and I decided in honor of the BUY 3 GET 1 FREE designer series paper sale going on this month (Oct. 2016) I would recreate this project using some of the papers featured in this sale!

I have used my 2 favorite Stampin' Up! papers, the Floral Boutique Designer Paper pack (annual catalog, pg 172, #141663) and the Candy Cane Lane Christmas paper (Holiday catalog, pg 5, #141981) to decorate the box and make the note cards that go inside the boxes.

Candy Cane Lane Note Cards in a repurposed Project Life Box. Great for gift giving! by Patty Bennett

I used the Crumb Cake note card pack with the Candy Cane Lane paper - the crumb cake color is perfect!  I decorated each note card with pieces from the Candy Cane Lane designer paper pack (each piece is 5" wide to match the cards, and varies in height from 1" to 2-1/2"), the Candy Cane Lane Washi Tape, the Candy Cane Lane Baker's Twine, and then embellished with the Christmas Joy or Merry & Bright stamps from the Stitched with Cheer stamp set (pg 34, #142182) die cut with the Bunch of Banners Framelits dies (annual catalog pt 193, #141488).

These empty Project Life card boxes are a perfect fit for the Stampin' UP! Note Cards and Envelopes!  See my special offer below to see how you can get one!

Each box will hold between 10 and 20 cards and envelopes, depending on how many embellishments you put on the cards.

Candy Cane Lane Note Cards in a repurposed Project Life Box. Great for gift giving! by Patty Bennett

I wrapped up the box with the beautiful Real Red 3/4" stitched edge ribbon and a piece of Watermelon Wonder striped ribbon.  You can see ALL OF THE SUPPLIES for both of these projects at the bottom of this blog post.

I cut out 2 little houses from the Candy Cane Lane paper with my Paper Snips, and put them on top of an In Color Doily and a Delicate White Doily to dress up this box.

It's so much fun to decorate the box - I have a VIDEO TUTORIAL and the cutting dimensions to show you how to cover the box.. just CLICK HERE to watch!

As you can see below, the box will fit between 10 and 20 cards with envelopes, depending on how many embellishments you put on your cards.  With the thickness of these cards (ribbon, greeting on dimensionals), I would probably plan to include 10 of these cards + 10 envelopes max.

Candy Cane Lane Note Cards in a repurposed Project Life Box. Great for gift giving! by Patty Bennett

What you will need for each Note Card Box:

  • Pack of Designer Series Paper (see paper on SALE through 10/31/16 here)
  • Pack of Whisper White (#131527) or Crumb Cake (#133766) Note Cards with envelopes
  • Adhesive
  • embellishments
  • Project Life card box

Patty's Special Offer for the first 10 orders!

(you must email me after placing your order to qualify - let me know you want the box)

So.. here is my special for you!!  For the first 10 people who purchase the buy 3 get 1 free Designer Series Paper special (you pick your 4 designs), and 2 packs of note cards (#131527 or #133766 ), I will send you one of the Project Life boxes so you can make one of these great gifts!!  The boxes are empty, ready for you to decorate and fill!

Floral Boutique Note Cards in a repurposed Project Life Box. Great for gift giving! Butterfly thinlit accents in Shimmery White and Night of Navy. by Patty Bennett

I decorated this Project Life box with Floral Boutique Desiger paper and some 5/8" Organza White Ribbon, 1/8" silver ribbon and a die cut butterfly over a Silver Doily and a Delicate White Doily.  The Butterfly Framelits are on page 194, #138135 and 137360 and are die cut with Night of Navy and Shimmery White cardstock.  A Silver Enamel shape completes the butterfly.

Remarkable You Flower Note Cards

Stampin' Up! Whisper White Note Cards to the rescue!! I love note cards!  If you enjoy coloring, grab the Remarkable You stamp set and stamp the flowers in black and color away with the coloring tools of your choice!  I used Copic markers here.

Remarkable You note cards colored with Copic Markers by Patty Bennett. Images from Stampin' UP!

I colored these images with my copic markers MONTHS ago and had them sitting on my stamping table all this time, so I decided to die cut them with the new Stampin' UP! Layering Ovals and Layering Circle framelits, then I mounted them to Whisper White Note Cards.   I truly love how they came out!!

Remarkable You note card colored with Copic Markers by Patty Bennett. Images from Stampin' UP!

I really Punched Up the color on this note card by sponging the doily in Melon Mambo ink and a sponge dauber, and adding Cucumber Crush striped designer paper and striped ribbon!

Crafting tip: make custom colored doilies by sponging ink onto them with a Stampin' UP! Sponge Dauber!

Tip: create custom  colored doilies by gently adding color with a sponge dauber and Stampin' UP! Classic ink!

Remarkable You note card colored with Copic Markers by Patty Bennett. Images and Festive Embossing folder from Stampin' UP!

For the note card above, I went with a little bit softer look but still pops of color with my Copic marker coloring.  The background was created with the Festive Embossing folder (pg 11 in the annual Stampin' UP! catalog, #141471).  I used the same Cucumber Crush striped ribbon on this card as the other card in this post.  I like that ribbon a LOT!

Jar of Love and Thoughtful Branches stamped card featuring Stampin' Up! bundles by Patty Bennett, www.PattyStamps.com

This gorgeous color combo of Elegant Eggplant, Garden Green, Soft Suede and Pool Party is just so soothing, rich and comforting!!  I love it!

I created this card when I stamped with my sweet friend Cindee and she suggested using Basic Gray for the jar instead of black, and I love how it looks!  After I finished my jar, flowers, stems and greeting, I decided that my jar was "floating" on the card, so, I masked the bottom of the jar with a Post-It note, and stamped the Timeless Textures image in Crumb Cake to give the jar somewhere to "sit".

Stampin UP! color combo for the Jar of Love / Thoughtful Branches card by Patty Bennett

I thought we used Garden Green cardstock, but I know we used Wild Wasabi ink... either one is a great pairing with Elegant Eggplant!

Did you see my hydrangea card featuring this Thoughtful Branches Bundle? click here!

Last Chance to get this Stamp Set!

I'm not sure if you feel this way, but sometimes I feel like the Hostess sets in the back of the Stampin' Up! catalog get overlooked.  I particularly LOVE this Best Thoughts set (probably because I love to color) and if you love to color, too, this is a great set to have in your craft room!

Best Thoughts Stampin' UP! Hostess set - hydrangea flower colored with Wink of Stella glimmer pen and Calypso Coral ink. Card by Patty Bennett

I know it's hard to see in this photo, but I colored with my Wink of Stella glimmer pen and you can SEE THE VIDEO TUTORIAL here for how to do that technique.

I think you can see the Wink of Stella Glimmer a little better in this photo:

Best Thoughts Stampin' UP! Hostess set - hydrangea flower colored with Wink of Stella glimmer pen and Calypso Coral ink. Card by Patty Bennett

Remember my "left-overs" bin of die cuts and tags that  I shared with you here?  Well, that butterfly and greeting were in that box, so I decided to add them to this card!

Best thoughts hydrangea flower card pattystamps wink of stella butterfly

I also added just a strip of paper that was left over on my desk to the left side of this card... I like it when left-overs can be repurposed!!

Take a look at the hostess sets below.. these are all available for any orders over $150 - you earn hostess $$ to spend on any order over $150 and you can use those hostess $$ to buy any of these items!

For anyone who loves to color, this Remarkable You stamp set is perfect! The outline images in this stamp set are perfect for watercoloring, using Stampin' Write markers, colored pencils or Copic Markers.

I colored this flower note card with my Copic Markers and then added some Wink of Stella glimmer to the leaves and flower!

139894 stamp set remarkable you from Stampin' Up!

I didn't pay much attention to the color..I just grabbed my copic markers and started to color.  Then I wondered what flower this actually is, so I asked my Luv 2 Stamp Group team and Cara said it's a magnolia! ack!  I thought magnolias were only white so I thought I really blew it with my coloring, but she sent me this link.. yes, there are purple magnolias! :)

Then, we had further discussions and some thought it was a type of lily .. so.. whatever it is, it is purple in my little world, and I hope you like it! :)

I accented the green and lavender colors in this card with Wisteria Wonder Seam Binding ribbon and some green printed paper from the NEW Affectionately Yours designer paper pack, coming up in the 2016 June Stampin' Up! catalog.

Everything is layered onto a Whisper White note card.

What do you think about this color combo?  I think it's pretty striking!!

I made these sweet sunflower cards for the top 10 in sales in my Luv 2 Stamp group.  I enjoy recognizing their special accomplishments!!  Congrats to Wendy, Janet, Cindee, Becky, Melissa, Gloria, Dreamia, Lorita, Jo Anne and Sharon for achieving this great accomplishment!!

They are "pocket cards" made from a sketched polka dot bag from Stampn' UP!. You may remember this idea from these gift card holders (watch the video tutorial here).

When you fold the bag (per the video linked above) you can slip in a 4"x4-1/4" card like I did above, or a gift card, a photo, a Project Life card, a recipe, tea bags, soup packet, etc... such a handy design for so many of your gift giving needs!

Punch Art Sunflower on a pocket card - Stampin' UP! designer paper and punches

The Congrats stamp is from October 2015 Paper Pumpkin kit - I love that kit!  See more Paper Pumpkin kit info here.  I'd love to have you as one of my subscribers! :)

Here is how I made the fun Punch Art sunflowers!

How to create Punch Art Sunflowers with circle punches and scallop circle punches

When I created these sunflowers for THIS PROJECT I sponged them.. but I left them unsponged for the cards in this blog post..  (is unsponged a word?).. what do you think... sponged or not?

I am so excited to share this fun AND EASY tri-fold card with you today!

WATCH THE VIDEO below in this post for all the instructions plus bonus tips!

Trifold-home-for-christmas-tree-punch-card-stampin-up

All of these adorable elements were cut or punched out of the Home for Christmas designer paper in the Stampin' Up! Holiday catalog for 2015!!

Being a former Structural Drafter... here is how my brain works... some of you will relate... if you don't, that's ok too... the video will help :)

Below... what the card looks like when you open it..

I embellished each punched tree with candy dots and a punched gold glimmer star!

Trifold-home-for-christmas-tree-punch-santa-on-way-card

Compare the difference... the trees above were punched out of the Home for Christmas tree patterned paper, and the trees below were fussy-cut individually out of the paper.... the punching is quicker, but the hand cut ones are so super pretty!!

The Santa and reindeer (or Bambi as I like to call him) are also cut out of the printed paper from the Home for Christmas package.  I added the smallest rhinestones onto the tips of each candle on the trees.. so pretty!

The perfect touch to finish off this card was a Wooden Snowflake embellishment with an Iced Rhinestone in the center!!  As I mentioned in the video, I colored the center of the rhinestone with a red Sharpie Marker. :)

Here are 3 versions of this Tri-fold Christmas Card - the video will show you how to make them!  Later this week I will post close up photos of the snowflake card (designed by Susan Adams).

Punch Art Sunflowers from Leftover Halloween paper

Got Leftovers? Use them up!

I am done creating projects for Halloween, but I still had some Happy Haunting Halloween paper left over in my Stampin' Up! stash.. So I created some Sunflower Punch Art Cards to use it up!

Punch-art-sunflowers-cards-happy-haunting-into-the-woods-pattystamps-stampin-up

I used some of the Happy Haunting Paper, some of the Into the Woods paper and some Farmers Market paper to create my note cards!!  I thought they were kinda cute and peppy!!

Here are the Stampin' UP! punch supplies I used:

I know you've seen me use these great Whisper White Note Cards quite often.. I just love the size and they were the perfect fit for the 2 sizes of punch art sunflowers!

If you love Punch Art, please visit my Punch Art Pinterest Board here!

I sponged the edges of these flowers with Crushed Curry ink, so that they are a little bolder.  It's kind of a fun mix of patterns on this card.. don't you think?

I had quite a few thank you notes to make this weekend, so here is my stack going out to my dear customers for orders at the end of the 15% off sale.. thank you!!!

I know.. you are thinking.. no way am I cutting all those pieces out!! Well, never fear...

It is really seriously easy to cut out this Snowman Santa really quickly with the Snow Friends framelit dies and your Big Shot! Of course the Magnetic Platform makes this even easier!

You may have seen this pretty tree background on my blog before.. I posted THIS CARD with the same background.. It's created with the Woodland Embossing folder.

I cut the snowy hill out of a small piece of Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer paper.. SO pretty!

Woodland-embossing-folder-circle-moon-mask

Have you tried this great Woodlands Embossing Folder background technique yet?

  1. Lightly brayer some Lost Lagoon ink directly onto the Woodland Embossing folder (the side with the raised background and "depressed" tree trunks)
  2. OPTIONAL: Stamp some trees onto the folder with the Wonderland set and Garden Green ink - see this card
  3. Punch out a circle using a post-it note, and put it onto your white card panel
  4. Put the white card into the embossing folder, run through the Big Shot
  5. Take the post-it note circle off the white card and VOILA! A winter tree scene with a moon!
