So i just have to ask.. did anyone see my new blog header?  I took the pumpkin photo YEARS ago and thought I'd add some MDS images to it for my November header.

Anyway... on to today's card... A Folded Paper Flower card by Vinnie for our Luv 2 Stamp Group Stamp a Rama event!

Vinnie 1 copyVinnie saw this idea in our Stampin' Success magazine (it's a montly magazine exclusively for Stampin' Up! demonstrators, YOU can be one too!) :)  This card idea came from my friend Kerry Schwenneker.. I met Kerry many years ago on a Stampin' Up! cruise!   Anyway.. this was a winning contest entry and Vinnie used the idea for her shoebox swap project.

  Vinnie cards

Step 1: punch out 7 circles with designer paper.. this will really work with almost any size circle... I think we used 1-3/8".  Punch out an 8th circle with cardstock (shown in pink here) to use as your backing.

Step 2: fold the 7 DSP circles into cones as shown below

Vinnie pieces 1

Step 3: Put adhesive (we used Snail) on the cardstock circle and start adhering the DSP folded circles onto it to form the flower petals.

Vinnie pieces 2

Step 4: use a paper piercer and mat to poke a hole in the center and add a brad.

Step 5.  Add to card!

Vinnie letterpress
We also used the Festive Finishes Pick a Pattern Letterpress plate (pg 21 holiday mini) with Old Olive ink to add the stripes to the card.

Texturz Plates - Technique Class Project #4

The 4th project I taught in my Technique Book Class this week was how to use the Texturz Plates (pg 203 in the catalog).  There are 6 plates, each are 2-sided and when you run them through the Big Shot, you have the option of 12 different textures for your cardstock!!

Here is the 6x6 page we made for our Technique Book - SEE BELOW FOR CLOSE UPS:

Texturz Plates for the Big Shot

I think my favorite new "toy" has to be the Texture Plates for the Stampin' Up! Big Shot!!  There are 2 sets of plates.. each set has 6 designs, so there are 12 total textured backgrounds you can make with these plates.

I made these sampler rings to take to workshops so everyone can see all the neat designs:

Until I can get a video on line, many have asked the following questions, so let me answer here:

The Texturz plates are roughly the same size as the Multi Purpose Platform, so that gives you a rough idea of the size.. they are nice and big!

You also need the 2 pads listed on pg 203, in addition to the Multi Purpose Platform (the Impressions Pad and the Silicone rubber pad) to make the "sandwich" to roll through the Big Shot.

To get a better impression (deeper embossed image) I used 2 or 3 sheets of cardstock UNDER my texturz plate like a shim, (those don't get embossed) and then made the "sandwich" per the instructions on the multi purpose platform.  This gives a deeper embossed image. Without that extra thickness in your sandwich, the impression is actually quite faint.  Of course, this gives you that option too!

I'm teaching all week at my son's school, so when I have time to come up for air I'll get some new videos on line for you!

Texturz Plates Samples - Part 1

As you know, I LOVE my Big Shot.. and now that we have lots of new toys to go with the Big Shot in the Stampin' Up! catalog, you'll be seeing lots more fun ideas on my blog!!

Iam really enjoying playing with the TEXTURZ PLATES, (pg 203), and I will be having a video really soon for you, but for now, here are some samples of the beautiful embossed/textured backgrounds created by these plates... These are the Stampin' Up! Exclusive designs.

Can you see the small raised polkadots on the Riding Hood Red cardstock?  It's not terribly easy to phtoograph them..

Here is the whole card:

the swirly embossed Texturz Plate pattern on the light pink is difficult to see.. maybe if you click on it to enlarge it will be easier to see..
