Happy Holidays Penguin Christmas Card

SNOW FRIENDS CARD SERIES - DAY 1

Welcome to day 1 of a 3 part series featuring these adorable Snow Place / Snow Friends stamps and dies from the Stampin' UP! 2015 Holiday  catalog!

Penguin card featuring Snow Place and Snow Friends stamps and dies from Stampin Up! Happy Holidays stamp featured in the Six Sayings Hostess set. Card by Patty Bennett

I'm crazy for penguins... did you know?  I'll link to some of my penguin posts and my Penguin Pinterest board at the bottom of this post :)   We have a collection of stuffed penguins that come out to play at our house each Christmas.. do you have a favorite collection you bring out during the holidays?

For this sweet square card I used several fun techniques, and custom colored my own "Color me Irresistible" paper to get some fun red and white stripes!

First, I used my Real Red and Island Indigo Stampin' Write Markers to color just the top portion of this stamp from the Six Sayings Hostess set, then stamped it on Whisper White cardstock and cut it with my Stampin' Trimmer:

Use Stampin' Write markers to selectively color a portion of the Six Sayings hostess stamp from Stampin' Up!. Happy Holidays penguin card by Patty Bennett

Red Pom Pom Trim... ok.. how cute is this!  I saw this idea on Pinterest and thought it was so cute for the ear muffs!  eek!! A penguin with cold ears.. now that's just silly!

Red pom pom trim mades a cute embellishment or ear muffs for this cute Snow Place penguin from Stampin' Up!. Handmade card by Patty Bennett

The Color Me Irresistible paper comes both "white on white" (for you to custom color, or use as white decorative paper) and it also comes with 6 sheets of already colored paper.  Since I wanted Real Red, I made my own. After trying both my brayer and a sponge dauber, I decided I liked the even-ness of the brayer.  What do you think? Watch the Video: See more info about the paper here.

Custom Color the "Color me Irresistible" paper from Stampin' UP! to create fun patterned paper in any color.

Below I've shown you the supplies I used for this sweet little square card.  Have you tried the thick Whisper White cardstock yet? It's wonderful for card bases!

The fun Snow Place stamp set and the matching Snow friends Framelits are available separately, or, they are sold together at a 15% discount!  You'll find them on pg 33 of the Holiday Catalog.

Christmas Stamp a Stack card #2

Here is another card we made at my Christmas Stamp A Stack class last month... enjoy the quick and fun ideas!  THIS IS A HYBRID MY DIGITAL STUDIO CARD - part MDS and part cardstock/ribbon/big shot.

The focal point in this card was made in My Digital Studio. I printed out the "family with tree" image from the WELCOME CHRISTMAS digital download  (#123962, $3.95) with a kraft script background, and die cut it with the Top Note Die and the Big Shot! The background is done with the Petals a Plenty  Embossing Folder and the brayer technique.

Welcome christmas mds 1

For the tree decorations on the card above, I put brads on the tree in MDS.

For the tree below, we added Basic Pearls to the tree.

Welcome christmas mds 2

We topped it off with a Basic Rhinestone on top!
Welcome christmas mds 3

The greetings were printed in My Digital Studio as well, and punched out with a scallop oval punch.

SPOOKY Halloween Tree

Halloween is coming!  Are you ready? Have you decorated and most importantly have you BOUGHT A BUNCH OF CANDY ??  :)

To get you in the mood.. here is my latest Halloween Creation...

Halloween tree

I got this idea from Jan Tink - I used a corner of one 12x12 sheet of Designer Paper from the NIGHT OWL package (item 123012, pg 9 Holiday Mini catalog from Stampin' Up!).... and I brayered over the top of the tree!  First, I punched a circle with a post it note, and put it on the white background, then began brayering.. first with Daffodil Delight, then Tangerine Tango then Cajun Craze.  I brayered a bit of Soft Suede at the bottom for the dirt.

I added some stamped images from the DARK & DREARY stamp set (item 120837 or 121151, pg 7 of the HOliday Mini catalog) and then mounted it on Basic Black and Cajun Craze.

Flower Pot Card - Tutorial

DSC07457 copy I was making a card for a swap and I had to use the new hostess set called Kind and Caring Thoughts... I got the vision of the stems coming out of a pot... so... I needed a pot...

Here is the finished card:

DSC07498 copy

I used the new Dusty Durango cardstock for the pot and the matching Dusty Durango polkadot ribbon.  I also used the Dusty Durango MARKER (Whooohoooo - In Color Markers!) and an old olive marker to ink the stamp.  The greeting is also from that hostess set, stamped in Soft Suede, and is punched out with the new "Modern Label" punch.  The stems are stamped on Sahara Sand and mounted on Soft Suede.

OK>> Now.. how to make the pot:

DSC07445 copy

turn so that the 4" direction goes "side to side":

DSC07449 copy

align paper as shown below in your cutter, then cut:

DSC07450 copy

cut:

DSC07451 copy

Flip paper over, align as shown and cut other side:

DSC07452 copy

Now you have this shape:

DSC07453 copy

Scallop the top edge if desired:

DSC07454 copy

DSC07455 copy

DSC07456 copy

Fold scalloped flap down and you have a cute pot!

DSC07458 copy

The pot has a neat speckled/stippled finish from the brayering.. makes it look like terra cotta!

After I made all the swaps, I made one stamped on Whisper White and I really like it on white too!

Thanks for visiting!

Branch Out brayered cards

After teaching some brayering techniques at my last downline meeting, I decided to keep going and add some grass and sky to my "Branch Out" cards... enjoy!  (Branch Out is on pg 100).

Tree blue

Sky is brayered in Bashful Blue, grass is brayered in Kiwi Kiss.  Boy am I going to miss Kiwi Kiss!

Tree green

I thought these kind of looked like some of the Cherry Blossom trees that bloom here each March:

Luv 2 Stamp Group Meeting Projects

Here are 2 more projects we made at our Luv 2 Stamp Group meeting last Saturday.. they both use the brayer.

Brayer tree finished

For this card, tear a scrap piece of paper for your "snowy hill" horizon and then cover the bottom 1/3 of the card.  I brayered with Baja Breeze first, then used Not Quite Navy on the top 2" or so of the card.

After Brayering the top,  I used a sponge to sponge some NQN ink right at the horizon:

Brayer tree 3

Then I used the White Gel pen to add snow in the tree and snowfall in the sky:

Brayer tree 5

My downline attending the meeting or requesting a long distance packet received the step by step tutorial from me.  I hope the above info is helpful to everyone else.  You can also check out all of the wonderful brayered projects by Michelle HERE. This is where I learned most of the brayering techniques I shared with my team on Saturday.

We also did the "Patty Bennett Original" Brayered Manhattan Die Rose card - Details HERE:

Brayered Sunset / Lake card

One of the projects we made using some Brayering Techniques at my Luv 2 Stamp Group downline meeting on Saturday was this card:

Brayer lake card

I masked the bottom portion and then the top 2/3 was brayered first with So Saffron, then More Mustard then Really Rust.  Each color is brayered a little less and less so that the Rust is just on the top 1" or so.  Then, with the mask still at the horizon line, I sponged a little Rust ink right at the horizon.

After brayering (braying?) the top 2/3 with So Saffron, that's when I put the circle mask down (punch a post-it with one of our circle punches).  Then the other 2 colors were brayered.

I tore a mask for the hills, and sponged with Close to Cocoa.

Then I masked the top/sky portion and brayered the bottom with Baja Breeze and then Not Quite Navy.

Last step was to highlight with the White Gel Pen:

Brayer lake 13

Imaging the sun coming from the right, I highlighted the right side of the tips of the grass blades (the stamp is Inspired by Nature stamped in Basic Gray).

Brayer lake 14

I also added white streaks to the water.

Brayer lake 15

My downline attending the meeting or requesting a long distance packet received the 5 page step by step tutorial from me.  I hope the above info is helpful to everyone else.  You can also check out all of the wonderful brayered projects by Michelle HERE. This is where I learned most of the brayering techniques I shared with my team on Saturday.

Brayered Sunset

One of the techniques I'm teaching my downline today in our Luv 2 Stamp Group meeting is how to use the brayer to achieve backgrounds like this:

Brayer samples

You can click to view it larger.

These were all done by brayering the cardstock first with Barely Banana, then Summer Sun, then More Mustard and then some Really Rust.  Each time you add a color you brayer less and less of the piece of cardstock.  The "sun" was a mask I punched out of a post-it note.  I stamped the "Inspired by Nature" image in Basic Gray after I brayered, but you can stamp first if you wish.

I was inspired by fellow Advisory Board member Tamie Ackerson's card HERE.  She used sponges, and I used a brayer

I hope to have a video or a tutorial soon... this is a great technique!
