Holiday Catalog Sneak Peek Christmas Card idea!

 I am so excited to share this fun Christmas card idea with you!!!  I saw the idea on Pinterest to use the Bokeh dots background stamp with the Rainbow pad, and the tree die cut from the "In The Woods" framelit die set (#147919, pg 27 Holiday catalog).  The card idea inspired by demonstrator Katie Drew!  I added a beautiful layer of White Shimmer Paint to the tree die cuts, and the "Merry" die cut from the "Merry Christmas Thinlit dies" (#147912, pg 5 Holiday catalog)  using the new Joyous Noel Glimmer paper (#147817, pg 29 Holiday catalog).

The Bokeh Dots background stamp was inked with the rainbow pad shown above, stamped onto Whisper White cardstock, then used as the background for the die cut trees.

Tip #1 & #2:

Sponge White Shimmer paint with a sponge dauber onto the Whisper White Die Cut trees

To adhere both layers together, put small dots of glue on the top tree, allowing the little "flaps" to still lift up.

 

Tip #3:

Put the Stampin' UP! Multipurpose Adhesive Sheet onto the back of the Glimmer paper first, then die cut the word Merry.  This will give you a "sticker" to put onto your project and you don't have to mess with glue! :)

Guest Artists share Rainbow Pad Card Ideas

 

I always have a monthly challenge / Prize Patrol for my Luv 2 Stamp group (team of demonstrators), and for the month of July, I challenged them to use a Stampin' UP! Spectrum / Rainbow pad .. ink it up with 5 different ink refills and create at least 4 projects.  Once they shared with the group, they received a prize, and were put in a drawing for shopping sprees!

Rainbow Spectrum Pad birthday card for Eric

 

 HI friends!!  On our recent Stampin' Up! cruise to Alaska, we got to celebrate a very special birthday ALL WEEK LONG!!  My hubby, Eric, turned 60 and we took advantage of each special opportunity, adventure and restaurant as a way to celebrate his milestone!!  I'll be sharing more of his birthday cards over the coming week or so, and today I wanted to share one I made for him featuring the "One for All" and "Around the Corner" stamp sets from Stampin' UP!

 

I had fun inking up a Spectrum rainbow pad from Stampin' UP! with blue and green reinkers (ink refills) and then using it with the lovely bold Happy Birthday stamp from the One for All set as the focal point. I also used it around the edge of the card with the Around the Corner set to pull in all these fun colors!

The colors I used on my rainbow pad:

Lemon Lime Twist, Granny Apple Green, Pool Party, Bermuda Bay and Blueberry Bushel.

 

 

Before inking the uninked Spectrum pad, I like to take my Stampin' Write markers and color a swatch of them to make sure I like the combo (as shown above). 

 

I stamped this bold image onto Glossy paper to ensure really bold bright color and coverage, then added it to the card.

The Stampin' UP! Varied Vases bundle paired with the thick Whisper White note cards can create a very Clean and Simple card design with just a bit of stamping and some punched vases!

What do you think about these simple, clean cards with white space?  It was hard for me to leave the white space, but I liked them when I was all done! :)

 

Each stem is stamped in Lemon Lime Twist ink, then the flower image is stamped (left to right) with Lovely Lipstick ink, Pineapple Punch ink and Grapefruit Grove ink.  I used the thick Whisper White Note cards.. they are GREAT for these clean and simple cards.

Get Inky! Ink your own Spectrum Rainbow Pad!

 Have you discovered the fun of inking your own Spectrum (rainbow) pad yet?  You can purchase an uninked Stampin' UP! Spectrum pad (here) and use your ink refills to create your own rainbow, or, your own choice of color spectrum!!! 

Today I am sharing a couple of my own Spectrum Rainbow Ink Pad card samples, and several tips with you!

My cards today all feature the same rainbow pad that I inked with Stampin' Up! ink refills (see below for color combo).  I used the Ribbon of Courage stamp set, the Beautiful Day stamp set, and the Springtime Impressions butterfly die cut on my colorful cards!  For the card above, I layered my stamped piece onto Gorgeous Grape and Pineapple Punch cardstock!

I have a challenge for my Luv 2 Stamp Group this coming month to create projects using their own inked rainbow pad, to earn fun prizes, so I thought I would play along and give them some examples to jump start their creativity!!  Thinking about joining my team?  click here to read more - and don't forget about the 10 free ink pad offer in July when you join!

 

 

To create the rainbow butterfly die cut, I tapped the rainbow pad across my Whisper White cardstock, then spritzed it with water... after it was dry, I die cut the butterfly in my Big Shot.

 

 

Some TIPS for creating your own rainbow pad...

• think about a color combo you'd like to use
• do you want a true "ROYGBIV" rainbow? or a monochromatic pad with different shades of all one color?
• get out your Stampin' Write markers and test out your idea on cardstock first
• get out your ink refills and fill your Spectrum pad!

 

For this Spectrum rainbow pad, I used this color combo:

 

 

When inking a larger stamp such as the butterfly below (from the Beautiful Day stamp set) or the Thank You stamp from the Thankful Thoughts set, you can get almost all, if not all, of the colors on your pad.  When using smaller images like the heart from the Ribbon of Courage set (1st card in this post), you can just capture a couple of the colors!

Tip:  I stamped this butterfly once on the card and again on a scrap, cut it out and then added it as a 2nd layer to the card.. I love the extra dimension! I also added some Glitter Enamel dots and did a little splattering with my Stampin' Write marker!

 The top fold card base is Mango Melody cardstock.

Double Easel Fancy Fold card and Die Cutting Tips

 

Thank you to everyone who joined me live on Facebook on Tuesday at 2pm to see how to create these beautiful Tropical Chic double easel cards!!  If you missed it, I've posted the video below in this blog post so you can see my inspiration for these cards and how to create them!

 

The card above features the special day greeting from the Stitched All Around bundle, stamped onto a Stitched Shape Whisper White oval, and then layered onto a Stitched all around label die cut with the Tropical Chic 6x6 paper stack.

To create your own Tropical Chic card gather these supplies:

• 2 pieces of cardstock
• 2 6x6 sheets of Tropical Chic paper
• Whisper White cardstock for stamping
• ink pad colors of your choice
• Tropical Chic bundle
• Stitched Label die cut and Stitched oval die cut
• trimmer and Big Shot
• adhesive and bone folder

One thing I love about this card design is that it folds flat for mailing, and then pops up easily into this gorgeous easel display when the recipient takes it out of the envelope!

 

 Learn how easy it is to create the 2-tone leaves and flowers with an ink pad and sponge dauber! Watch the video tutorial at the bottom of this post! :)

 I love the greetings in the Treat Time stamp set (pg 35) so I used one on the card above/below.

 Be sure to pin or print out the cutting and scoring dimensions below so that you can make this card!!  Mix and match the cardstock colors and designer paper patterns to suite your taste.  I took my color palette from the Tropical Chic 6x6 designer paper stack colors. :)

 

 As I was creating this project, I thought about 4 things that I do when die cutting that might help you!!

1.  If you know you are doing to do a lot of die cutting with a particular set, it's helpful to buy a 2nd set of dies, if that's within your budget
2. Store your dies on a magnet sheet so they don't get lost - I use these from Stamp-n-Storage and I prefer the 6x7 size
3. I use a Post-It "tab" sticky note to hold dies in place that seem like they want to shift around as they go through the Big Shot
4. As I am die cutting, I put all the little pieces into a little container next to my Big Shot so they don't get lost.

 

 

Color Combo Tip!

As you are working on your project, take a photo of the colors you are using.  If you want to share the idea, or recreate the project later, you'll know exactly which colors you used!

Multi colored roses - Healing Hugs video tutorial

 

I was so excited to experiment with adding more than one color on each Healing Hugs rose stamp, and you might have watched my Facebook Live video tutorial on Sunday as I demonstrated this technique live! If you missed it, scroll down in this post for the video replay.

The Healing Hugs rose and leaves are a new type of stamp called "Distinktive".  It's a photorealistic type of image which is enhanced when you use more than one color!  (see pg 110 for the set and tips from Stampin' UP!).

 

The beautiful Healing Hugs stamp set is available in wood mount or clear mount!

Healing Hugs Rose Cards - new Stampin' Up! set

 I am super in love with the beautiful rose stamp in the Healing Hugs stamp set from Stampin' Up!   Of course you know I love roses, and you know I love COLOR... so I had to combine those and create some super colorful cards for today's post!!

 

 

 If you haven't discovered the Healing Hugs stamp set yet, it's in your new 2018-2019 Stampin' Up! annual catalog, on pg 11o, and you can also see a couple more samples on pg 104/105.  This is one of the new "Distinktive" designs (read more on pg 110) and I just stamped each rose in a separate color as shown here, but, I'm going to try the layering color technique with sponge daubers, next!!

My little secret weapon for this card is the darling corner detail.  I used the new Detailed Trio Corner punch on the upper left corner of each of the 4x4 Whisper White cardstock pieces.  I punched with the corner rounder and the little detailed image to create this look. You'll find this punch on pg 211 in the catalog, #146320

 

 

Above: I created this card with both Poppy Parade Cardstock and with Grapefruit Grove cardstock.. I love them both!

The sentiment on this card was created with 2 stamps from the Botanical Bliss stamp set, mounted on the same block.

How I organized my NEW Stampin' Up! ink pads!

 

This year I made a big change in my craft room and organized all of my Stampin' UP! cardstock, ink pads and reinkers in Rainbow Order!!  I have been thinking about it for years, and with the new color revamp this year, I decided rather than memorizing which colors were in which Stampin' UP! color families, I would just change to rainbow order!

Results: I LOVE IT!

 

ABOVE: my ink pad storage units from Stamp-n-Storage, show 2 styles of ink pad holders.  The one on the bottom is for the new style Stampin' UP! ink pads only (it won't fit the old style). The one on top is the old style (see this post), and holds the old and new style pads.   They offer MANY different styles of ink pad holders, and from June 8 to 18, 2018 you'll find some of them on sale at 15% off!

Above: I redid my reinkers into rainbow order as well!!  They are all in a drawer next to me as I craft, so I can easily grab them to reink my pads or use them for watercoloring techniques.  I used retired candy dots and glimmer dots, some colored with Stampin' Blends or Sharpie markers, to try to capture a color close to the ink color, then I wrote the name on the lid with a fine tip Sharpie.

Like I mentioned above, I LOVE the rainbow order for my supplies!   The great news is.. if you try it and you don't like it, it's so easy to change ... but for me, this was a GREAT change!  I love just being able to "browse the greens", or "browse the reds" at a glance!! :)

Stampin' Up! Color Combo Ideas & Video

I wanted to figure out a way to REALLY get to know ALL of the new Stampin' UP! colors.. so I started by looking at each color group in the rainbow and making the cards below! 

I used all of the colors minus the neutral grays, tans, browns and black. 

I hope you find this look at the Stampin' Up! "color rainbow" helpful!

Step 1: Buy the assortment packs of cardstock from each color family (available 6/1/18 to customers)

Step 2:  Cut all packs in 1/2 for card bases, and cut the other halves into 1/4 sheets. 

Step 3:  Check out which colors seem to be in the same "rainbow" color groups. Make piles.

Step 4:  Create cards with all of the Stampin' UP! colors in "rainbow order" using the Painted Glass stamp set (rainbow), Love What You Do set (greeting), Rooted in Nature set (leaf and branch), White Polka Dot Tulle ribbon, and the stitched shape framelits and Layering Oval Framelits.

For this exercise, I wanted to see how each of the color groups worked together within their own color group.

Below:  Stampin' Up! shades of red: Lovely Lipstick, Poppy Parade, Real Red, Cherry Cobbler and Merry Merlot.  I found that Merry Merlot could either go with the reds or with the deeper purples or the vibrant pinks like Berry Burst.

Trying out "Rainbow Order" this year

I'm trying something new this year!  Instead of organizing my Stampin' Up! cardstock in the 4 color families and In Colors in separate paper holders, I combined them all into one big rainbow!  I am LOVING my rainbow order cardstock organization so far!!! :)

As you may know, Stampin' Up! is taking the opportunity to revamp our color families in honor of their 30 Year Anniversary!!  Rather than put all my new colors into the new families, I decided to see how I'd like it in rainbow order!

 

My inspiration came from Monica Gale.  Her cardstock is organized in one long horizontal rainbow row, but I don't have room to do that.. so this is how I have mine! 

You can see Monica's rainbow list here.

You will notice that I modified my order a little from hers, because I put the white, vanilla, and neutrals on the left, separate from the rainbow.  I am LOVING this rainbow order so far!!  Do what works for you, and the great news is, you can change it around anytime! :)

I love my paper holders, see the Stamp-n-Storage 8-1/2x11 cardstock holders here. 

Be sure to click the option to include the 8-1/2x11 or 12x12 paper holder label system to match your paper holder size.. I find them super helpful.. here is how they look:
