Hugs!!! Time for a quick and simple card featuring the Stampin' Up! Lovely Words thinlit "hugs" die, Tranquil Tide (new In Color) and a sweet floral pattern from the Pick a Pattern designer paper package!

I probably would not have thought about combining Tranquil Tide and Flirty Flamingo, but since Stampin' Up! did it in the Pick a Pattern paper, I went with that combo and really love how it turned out!

My base card is a 4-1/4" square Tranquil Tide cardstock card, and the 4" square floral piece is from the Pick a Pattern paper pack.

I have 3 tips to share with you when creating this card!!

Above, I found it helpful to add the 4"x4" piece of designer paper to my folded Tranquil Tide card, then add the Lace Doily, then wrap the Tranquil Tide ribbon around the card front with the seam in the front.  It will get covered, so don't worry.  Then add the Stitched Shape circle framelit and then the "hugs" die.

Above:  I added Clear Wink of Stella to the "HUGS" die cut and it added just the right touch of sparkle!

Above:  Don't forget to decorate the inside of your card.  Especially when you have a dark card like this Tranquil Tide card, add a piece of Whisper White (or any light color) and stamp it for added interest.   The flowers are stamped in Flirty Flamingo and are found in the Wood Words stamp set. 

Did you see that totally adorable little Tranquil Tide bow!?

Well, might be hard to see in the photo... but guess what.. I added Wink of Stella to it, too!!!  You can find them in all the new Stampin' Up! colors on pae 197 in the 2017 Stampin' Up! catalog.

You can see by these 4 sample cards that we used the wonderful thinlit dies from the Seasonal Layers set and the coordinating Colorful Seasons stamp set.. it is an amazing bundle!!  If you could only buy one new set from this 2017 Stampin' UP! catalog, I'd recommend this one.. I've used it dozens and dozens of times!!

Above: We diecut the adirondak chair using the Wood Textures paper stack and adirondak chair die from the Seasonal Layers thinlits.  The base card is Crushed Curry, and we used 2 cards from the Color Theory card pack for the background.

 

Autumn Colors Fall Card featuring the Stampin' UP! Memories and More Color Theory card pack and the Seasonal Layers leaf thinlit dies! Glitter Enamel dots are the perfect accent.

Above: Base card is Old Olive, and  we added 2 fall cards from the Color Theory card pack for the background.  The leaves on the right are stamped using the Colorful Seasons stamp set. The leaves on the left are die cut from the Seasonal Layers thinlits (buy them together in a bundle!  #145348).  I splattered Soft Suede marker on the finished card for extra interest and finished it off with Glitter Enamel Dots.

Above/Below:  The base card is a thick Whisper White folded card, with 2 of the winter/snowflake design cards from the Color Theory card pack.  We added die cut snowflakes from the Seasonal Layers thinlits dies and Glitter Enamel Dots to the centers of each one.  We used Whisper White, Dapper Denim and Dazzling Diamonds glimmer paper for the snowflakes.

Birthday Party Hat Card Idea with embossing paste

August 06, 2017

 

Hip Hip Hooray, it's a happy birthday card!! :)  This fun stamp set just called out to me in the new 2017 Stampin' UP! catalog!  It's on page 72 and it's called Celebrate You! I love the party hat and the fun font in the Happy Birthday greeting!

I just knew that this card would deserve happy, peppy colors, so I selected the high contrast of a black background with my 2 favorite new In Colors:  Lemon Lime Twist and Berry Burst!

 

Birthday Card Idea featuring Stampin' UP! Celebrate You stamp set with party hat and embossing paste background by Patty Bennett

 

 I stamped the party hat twice, once in Lemon Lime Twist and once in Berry Burst, then just cut the "pom pom" off the top of the hat and added it with a Stampin' Dimensional to the top of the hat!

The background of the card is Stampin' Up! embossing paste mixed with Lemon Lime Twist reinker and added with the Pattern Party masks onto the Basic Black Cardstock.

The embossed piece is layered onto a 4" x 5-1/4" piece of Lemon Lime Twist cardstock then everything is layered onto a thick Whisper White top fold base card. 

 

Birthday Card Idea featuring Stampin' UP! Celebrate You stamp set with party hat and embossing paste background by Patty Bennett

 

The greeting was really easy.. just stamp Happy Birthday with Berry Burst ink onto Whisper White cardstock, die cut with a layering oval die, and layer onto a layering oval scalloped Lemon Lime Twist piece!! Super cute!

The card is finished off with a piece of printed Lemon Lime Twist paper from the Fresh Florals paper stack and some Berry Burst crinkled seam binding ribbon!  I also added several rhinestones to the card for a little BLING!

Daisy Delight In Color Thank You Card Set

 I created these sweet little Thank You Note Cards featuring the Stampin' Up! Daisy punch a couple months ago, but since the punch has been out of stock for so long, I was waiting to share these with you!!  The Daisy punch is now back in stock (here), so... I'm sharing! :)  Did you hear that this has been our best selling punch in about the last 5 years!!??

 

Daisy Delight In Color Clean and Simple note cards featuring Fresh Floral paper stack by Stampin' Up!

 

I wanted to feature the new 2017-2019 Stampin' Up! In Colors on these cards.  I created daisies with Berry Burst, Fresh Fig and Powder Pink.  Trust me when I say that the Lemon Lime Twist and Tranquil Tide daisies didn't make the cut.

I punched the daisies with the Fresh Florals paper stack printed paper (pg 187, #144131 online) and added stamped leaves in Lemon Lime Twist from the Daisy Delight stamp set, as well as 1/2" circle punched Lemon Lime Twist centers to each flower.

I cut about 1" off of the right side of the front of each Note Card, and added a strip of designer paper from the Fresh Florals stack to the inside of the card.  I liked the contrasting printed paper designs!

Die Cutting Orchid Builder framelits with the Magnetic Platform and Big Shot from Stampin Up!

 

The Magnetic Platform makes die cutting the images so easy with the Big Shot!  Watch the video above for tips on die cutting and curling each flower petal with your Bone Folder.  I also colored the petals with my Clear Wink of Stella glitter brush. Die Cut pieces to assemble the climbing orchid flowers from Stampin' Up!. Curl each petal with a bone folder and color with clear wink of stella!

 

Below: I used the same techniques described in the video above to create this note card. I sprayed each petal with a quick spritz of water from a Stampin' Spritzer to help the ink bleed just a little.

Delightful Daisy and Oh So Eclectic floral Embossing Paste Cards

 You know how much I love flowers.. in my garden AND in my stamping projects... I really love these beautiful flower cards that I came up with showcasing embossing paste backgrounds, new Stampin' UP! In Colors, and the the Lovely Words Thinlit dies.  On the left card I decorated it with punched Daisy images, new Decorative Ribbon border punch, and a Clear Faceted Gem.  On the right card, I stamped and die cut with the Oh So Eclectic stamp set for the flowers and die cut Lemon Lime twist leaves with the Ribbon of Courage/Support Ribbon framelit dies.

Stampin UP! embossing paste background card idea featuring Delightful Daisy punch and Lovely Words thinlit dies embellishment. by Patty Bennett

 

The best secret for the fun Daisy punch is to stamp and punch it twice, then layer them together and add them to your project.  I also like to "curl" the petals gently backwards to give it some volume and interest.  On the Daisy below, I stamped in Berry Burst ink on Whisper White, then just "blended" the color a bit with a Clear Wink of Stella pen.. so it glistens and has some fun variations in color.

Details & Tips for the Daisy Friend card above:

  • Use Thick Whisper White cardstock cut to 11 x 4-1/4 and fold in 1/2 for base card
  • Lemon Lime Twist cardstock panel: 4 x 5-1/4
  • Berry Burst cardstock panel: 3-3/4 x 5 embellished with lemon lime twist colored embossing paste and Pattern Party masks
  • Decorative Ribbon punch border: whisper white cardstock
  • Ribbon: Lemon Lime 1/2" Finely Woven ribbon
  • Friend: die cut with Lovely Words thinlits in Whisper White cardstock
  • Leaf die cut with Lemon Lime Twist cardstock and Eclectic Layers thinlits dies and sponged lightly with Lemon Lime ink and Sponge dauber for dimension
  • Daisy: stamp twice in Berry Burst ink on Whisper White cardstock, color lightly with Clear Wink of Stella pen, punch and curl petals gently with Bone folder before putting onto the card. Center: Clear Faceted Gem

I am excited to share a step by step video tutorial with you so that you can easily create these fun watercolor backgrounds and cards featuring the Ribbon of Courage bundle, Stampin' Up! Watercolor paper, Stampin' Spritzer, Clear Blocks and ink pads!

I've heard it called the "Smoosh" technique.  Cindee taught me how to do this and I created 40 cards with this technique after she showed me how!!

The Color Combos I used for most of my cards are shown below.  I love the springy happy pinks, reds and orange tones.  But you'll see in the video you can use so many other color combos!!  It's really fun to experiment!

In addition to the 3 ink pad colors shown above, I also used Lemon Lime Twist cardstock to die cut the leaves from the Support Ribbon framelit dies.

Above and Below:  these 2 Ribbon of Courage cards feature Rose Red and Blushing Bride for the ink in the watercolor background, and the new Powder Pink designer paper, cardstock and ribbon. Don't they look so pretty together!?

The ribbon stamped images are all stamped with Flirty Flamingo ink.

I used the stamp set that comes in the Soft Sayings card kit, on page 11 of the new 2017 catalog for stamping the background of the "lovely" heart card.  Below are the 4 steps I used and the 4 Stampin' Up! colors I stamped with.  You'll notice the are all new In Colors!  (see more In Color info here)

hmmmm just noticed that Tranquil Tide got omitted from the 3rd photo .. but that's what I used :)

I used the Sweet & Sassy heart framelits to "frame" my friend die cut .. you can watch the video in this blog post to see how I did that.  I love all the options when layering the Sweet & Sassy heart framelits, Layering Circles, Layering Ovals and Stitched Shape framelits all together with the heart, circle and oval in the Lovely Words thinlits!

I really like the random background that the stamping created... don't you?

I used the "To my dear friend" stamp to add some text to the "lovely" heart.. watch the video above to see exactly how I did that!

The Lovely Heart is die cut with Berry Burst cardstock, and the card base and ribbon are both Lemon Lime Twist. I "framed" the lovely heart with a Sweet & Sassy heart and also cut an additional whisper white Sweet & Sassy heart to go behind the lovely heart.  If that's confusing, just watch the video to see the details :)

I really like my Hello Friend card!!  I used the same to main colors (Berry Burst and Lemon Lime Twist).. they are so peppy and fresh together!!!  I stamped the beautiful flower image from Wood Words (find it on page 159 in the new 2017 catalog) on a diagonal across the 4x4 Whisper White piece, then added the Hello Friend die cut on top.  I also used the Stitched Shape framelits on this one.. watch the video above in this post for all those details.

To finish off the card, I die cut a stamped heart (also from the Wood Words set) and added a Glitter enamel dot to the heart.  I added a little strip of Lemon Lime Twist paper to the edge of the folded Berry Burst card and then added Berry Burst ribbon.  The new In Color ribbon is SUPERB this year!!  It feels wonderful and ties knots and bows perfectly!

Wood Textures paper stack Adirondak chair card

Have you discovered the Colorful Seasons stamp set in the new 2017-2018 Stampin' Up! catalog yet? It's on page 147, and I think it will be a huge favorite all year long, since you can stamp for all 4 seasons with it!! 

My card today features a spring theme using the branch and blossoms as a Cherry Blossom tree, and I've added a fun wood adirondack chair, die cut with the new Wood Textures Paper stack!

Would you like to sit here and relax in this great chair?  I would!

I created the circle by die cutting a large circle from the Layering Circle framelits out of a scrap, laying it over my whisper white cardstock and sponging VERY LIGHTLY with Calypso Coral ink... heavier at the lower right, lighter toward the top left.  I stamped the branch using Soft Suede ink, the flowers with Calypso Coral, Powder Pink and Flirty Flamingo ink, and then added the greeting from the Ribbon of Courage stamp set stamped in Early Espresso ink.

Colors:  base card-side fold: Flirty Flamingo / 4x5 layer: Powder Pink / 3-1/2"x4-1/4" layer: whisper white.

 

Die cut Adirondack chairs with the Wood Textures paper stack from Stampin Up! and the Seasonal Layers thinlit dies.

 

The adirondack chair die cut is found in the Seasonal Layers thinlit die package (pg 146 or pg 216) #143751.  As always you can save 10% on the money-saving bundle when you order the stamp set and dies together!!  That's #145348 for your shopping list. :)

I experimented and die cut the the Adirondack with several of the patterns from the new Wood Textures paper stack.. check out all the cute chairs below!! Oh my goodness.. so fun!!

Fabulous Flamingo card inspired by Vans

I was thrilled to receive this fun Fabulous Flamingo stamp set at the Stampin' Up! April OnStage event in San Diego!  I knew right away I was going to love playing with bright colors to create projects with this stamp set!!   If you are looking for it in the new Stampin' Up! catalog, you'll find it on page 177.

One night when we were mall walking and eating dinner in the mall, we sat in Johnny Rockets eating and as I looked across the mall to the stores on the other side, I was looking at this flamingo display in the Vans shoe store ... and of course my mind was thinking... OH I have that new Fabulous Flamingo stamp set from the new Stampin' Up! catalog!!  I need to make a card like this!!  :)

I have a fun tip for you .. get more mileage out of your punches (or dies) by altering the shape after you punch!  As you can see for my Tickled Pink label, I punched Whisper White cardstock  with the Pretty Label punch first, then just cut off the top and bottom scalloped parts!

 Color Combo Tip:

This is my Stampin' Up! Color Combo for this card.   I find it helpful to take a photo of the ink pads I use when stamping, just in case I want to recreate the project, or if someone asks me weeks or months down the road, and my memory has failed :)

You'll notice from the stamps in the set that it is a "3 step" stamp set.. there are 2 layers of solid images and 1 layer that is an outline for stamping the flamingo.  I stamped the most solid image in Flirty Flamingo ink, then the next solid image with Calypso coral, and then the outline in black.

I stamped the water in Bermuda Bay and then used the aquapainter and water to go over it, and then I decided to use my Clear Wink of Stella on the water, too.

The leaf stamp is in the set, too, and I stamped it in Lemon Lime Twist for a fun bright finish to this card.

Watercolor Wash background - Beautiful You cards

These cards just make me happy.. I love the Beautiful You stamp set and the free flowing watercolor wash background I created for these wonderful stamped ladies!  The Beautiful You stamp set is available in both wood mount and clear mount versions, my personal preference is wood mount, but both are great. If you have been following me for awhile, you probably know that I am really partial to backgrounds created with a simple, yet colorful watercolor background wash.  I created these Beautiful You note cards with Stampin' Up! watercolor paper, an Aquapainter, water and reinkers in Bermuda Bay,  Peekaboo Peach, Crushed Curry, Flirty Flamingo and Pumpkin Pie.

Beautiful You Watercolor Wash background cards by Patty Bennett, featuring Stampin' Up! stamps, watercolor paper, reinkers and an Aquapainter

 

For the watercolor background on these cards, I simply used an Aquapinter brush to wet my Stampin' Up! watercolor paper, then dipped the tip into drops of Stampin' Up! reinker ink and washed across the wet paper.  Let the colors bleed and flow to mix and make new colors!

You might have noticed on the photo above, I mounted my finished watercolor masterpiece :) onto both a Bermuda Bay and a Flirty Flamingo card base... I really liked both of them.. couldn't decide which one I liked better.. each one pulls out different coloring in the background!

Do you have a preference? The Bermuda Bay or Flirty Flamingo cardstock base?

After the background was dry, I stamped the lady in Archival Black ink and then added a bit of color to her dress, hat or umbrella with the Watercolor Pencils, blended it slightly with just a little more water, and that was it... very simple and quick card!

I used the "ombre" pieces of designer paper in the Color Theory 6x6 paper stack for these note cards.  After die cutting medallion shapes from the Eastern Medallion framelit dies in Whisper White cardstock, I layered them onto the ombre paper in all 4 colors in this stack (Dapper Denim, Old Olive, Crushed Curry and Berry Burst).  I also stamped with the Eastern Beauty stamp set in the coordinating color, and added the Glitter Dots!

Each card is created on a folded thick whisper white folded card, and I added a 2" wide strip of Fresh Florals Designer Series paper and a 1/2" strip of solid In Color cardstock.  Above that I stamped the heart several times (from the Ribbon of Courage set) in the matching In Color, then added the punched greeting as described below:

 

I wanted to share the details about how I created the pretty tags.  I stamped the floral image from the Label me Pretty stamp set (new - coming June 1, 2017) and then stamped the Live every moment sentiment from the Ribbon of Courage stamp set (new - coming June 1, 2017) and then punched it out with the Pretty Label Punch (new - coming June 1, 2017).

I shared 3 different fold out projects for LOVE and HOPE in the video.  The dimensions for the cardstock and designer paper are listed below.  I used 4 envelopes stuck to each other as shown below, but you could adapt the design and cut and score cardstock, too.
