Free Video Tutorial for Layered Ink Technique with Stamparatus and Stampin' UP! Winter Woods stamp set, by Patty Bennett, www.PattyStamps.com

As you will see in the video below, you'll need your Stamparatus Stamp Positioning Tool, and several markers to enjoy this fun Layered Ink technique! I used the Winter Woods stamp set (clear mount) and Whisper White cardstock with my Stampin' Write markers to create these 2 cards.  The background is the brand new Buffalo Check background stamp - also available starting 9/5/18.

Thanks to Jenny Hall for the Layered ink tutorial.. I adapted it to use with this stamp set, and love it!

Layered Ink Technique with Stamparatus and Stampin' UP! Winter Woods stamp set. Buffalo check background. by Patty Bennett, www.PattyStamps.com

Above: After stamping the pine trees, I added several enamel snowflakes from the Santa's Workshop Enamel Shapes package (pg 19 Holiday Catalog #147811), and stamped Merry Christmas in Shaded Spruce ink from the Timeless Tidings stamp set (pg 33 Holiday catalog, #148939 or 148936).  I used a small bit of an Old Olive colored doily (#146935) peeking out under the sentiment and some metallic gold pearls for accents (#146282).

Above & Below: the Buffalo check background is stamped onto Mint Macaron cardstock.. in Mint Macaron ink above, and Shaded Spruce ink below. Find the Buffalo check stamp on pg 38 in the Holiday catalog, #147797 or 147794.

Above: To finish off this card, I die cut some Mint Macaron cardstock "sprigs" from the Frosted Bouquet framelits (sponging a little Shaded Spruce ink on a few ends), and I also added a copper leaf trinket because I liked how it complimented the tree trunks.  The greeting is from the Beautiful Baubles stamp set.

I hope you enjoyed these cards today. You could change the greeting and use them most any time of year, and I think they'd make particularly nice "manly cards", too!

Rooted in Nature Watercolor Paper Technique Video

I love everything about this card!  I love the watercolor-look tree image, the layered ovals, the sponged edges, the stamped background, and the simple embellishments! I stamped this card one day when I was crafting at Cindee's house. We took some inspiration from Pinterest, but ended up making it pretty much our own :)  Isn't that was crafters do? :)

I used the Stampin' Up! Rooted in Nature stamp set and framelit dies (get them in a bundle at a discount!), and the Handwritten background stamp!

Stampin' UP! Rooted in Nature stamp set / framelit die bundle card idea, featuring Handwritten background stamp and watercolor technique with a Stampin' Spritzer, by Patty Bennett, www.PattyStamps.com

I posted a  video a few days ago showing how to stamp this watercolor-look tree. I'm including it in my post below.

Design Notes:

  • Die cut a watercolor paper oval with the Stitched Shape framelits for the tree image
  • Sponge the edges of the oval and the background image with Soft Suede ink for a beautiful soft touch
  • Stamp the Handwritten background stamp in Soft Suede ink on a piece of Nature's Poem Designer Paper
  • Stamp and die cut leaves with the Rooted in Nature bundle
  • Add a Linen Thread bow to the card for one last "natural" looking embellishment
  • Watch the video below for details on coloring and spritzing the tree image for the watercolor look

Please enjoy this video tutorial with tips for creating the watercolor tree image on  watercolor paper!

Rooted in Nature Watercolor Technique

I am sharing 2 versions of this lovely card with you today, featuring the Rooted in Nature stamp set, Wood Textures designer paper, Woodland embossing folder, and a super easy watercolor technique!!

Stampin' UP! Rooted in Nature card idea, featuring Wood Textures designer paper and Woodland embossing folder background. By Patty Bennett, www.PattyStamps.com

To create this tree image, I colored with my Early Espresso and my Mossy Meadow Stampin' Write markers right onto the rubber, then spritzed the rubber with water before stamping onto the Wood Textures designer paper.

The beautiful tree on these cards is spritzed with water before stamping, and as you can see by the photo below, depending on how much water you spritz on the stamp, you can achieve different "watercolor" looks!

Watercolor spritzer technique: Stampin' UP! Rooted in Nature card idea, featuring Wood Textures designer paper and Woodland embossing folder background. By Patty Bennett, www.PattyStamps.com

I created 2 different styles of this card, and it just happened to work out that it creates 3 cards because of the way I cut the 6x6 Wood Textures paper.  I cut off a 2" wide strip first, then cut the 4" x 6" piece into two 3" x 4" pieces.  I was able to use all 3 pieces to make 3 cards!

Dimensions for cutting the 6x6 paper stack to create 3 Stampin' UP! Rooted in Nature cards, featuring Wood Textures designer paper and Woodland embossing folder background. By Patty Bennett, www.PattyStamps.com

The Wood Textures 6x6 designer paper stack includes several different wood grain patterns in different wood tones.  I used most of the lighter ones in the cards I created.   You can stamp right onto it like I did with the tree image.

I also stamped the leaf trio stamp from the Rooted in Nature set with Mossy Meadow ink onto Old Olive cardstock and die cut them for accents on these cards.  Rooted in Nature is from the 2018-2019 Annual Stampin' Up! catalog, pg 143 and may be purchased just as a stamp set, or in a 10% off money-saving bundle with the matching framelit dies.

The "wonderful" greeting is found in the Rooted in Nature set and stamped in Mossy Meadow ink, and the "grateful" greeting is found in a set called A Big Thank You from the 2018-2018 Annual catalog, pg 132 (#147377) and is stamped in Shaded Spruce ink.

Stampin' UP! Rooted in Nature card idea, featuring Wood Textures designer paper and Woodland embossing folder background. By Patty Bennett, www.PattyStamps.com

The Grateful greeting is stamped onto a die cut from the Stitched Label framelit dies (#146828).

The background of each card is a 4" x 5-1/4" piece of Very Vanilla cardstock embossed with the Woodland embossing folder.

The card base is Mossy Meadow, cut to 5-1/2" x 11" and folded in half at the top.

Each card has some Linen Thread, either tied around it or in a bow.  I thought it added a nice "natural" touch.

I sure hope you enjoyed these cards today!!!  You can shop for all of the supplies at the bottom of this blog post. Click any product photo to go right to my online Stampin' Up! store.

A great card for GUYS & Burlap stamp tip!

Need a fun card for a special man in your life?  The Pocketful of Sunshine bundle is perfect for making that special card for hubby, son, boyfriend, nephew, dad, coworker, etc.!!

I combined the Pocketful of Sunshine stamp set/framelit bundle and the Burlap background stamp to create this Father's Day card, but you can switch up the greeting to create this for any occasion!

Great Guy Card featuring Pocketful of Sunshine stamp and framelit bundle from Stampin' Up!, and Burlap background stamp, by Patty Bennett at www.pattystamps.com

I stamped the Burlap Background stamp in Dapper Denim ink on Dapper Denim cardstock for the background of this card, and without reinking, I stamped it a 2nd time onto another piece of Dapper Denim cardstock, and used that piece for the pocket.  I stamped the pocket image in Archival Black ink, die cut it and added it to the card.

My personal preference is the wood background stamps, so I bought the wood mount Burlap stamp, but it's also available in clear mount and you can use your own Clear Block F #118483, pg 217.

Great Guy Card featuring Pocketful of Sunshine stamp and framelit bundle from Stampin' Up!, and Burlap background stamp, by Patty Bennett at www.pattystamps.com

For the little "tag" at the side of the pocket like Levi's jeans, I used one of the fun new Corrugated Elements pieces (#144158, pg 31 and 196).  I also added gold "studs" to the pocket, using the Metallic Enamel Shapes (#141678, pg 196).

Save 10%!!! Did you know that by purchasing BUNDLES from the Stampin' UP! catalog / online store, you save 10%!?  whohooo!!  Click to view/purchase the Pocketful of Sunshine BUNDLE!

The pocket is a perfect spot for a gift card, folded money, or just a special note!

Nailed It Tool Card Valentines

I decided to go a manly route for the Valentine cards I made for my guys this year.. I used the amazing Nailed It stamp set, matching Build It framelits and other Urban Underground accessories to make these fun cards!

I stamped all of the tools in Archival Black ink from Stampin' Up! onto Stampin' UP! watercolor paper and colored them with blender pens dipped in ink.  More details below...

"Tool Cards" featuring the Urban Underground Suite from Stampin' Up! with the Hexagon Dynamic embossing folder, by Patty Bennett

Side Note: do you know it's pretty difficult to photograph shiny reflective surfaces?  :)  I did my best.. the Hexagon embossed areas are Silver Foil and Copper Foil paper from Stampin' Up!  - SO fun in person, but hard to get the great detail on camera.

In addition to the Silver Foil hexagon embossed area, I also used the silver foil for the hammer head, and the ruler.  Both are die cut with the Built It Framelits.  ENJOY a 10% money-saving discount when you purchase the tool set and die cut BUNDLE in wood mount or clear mount.  (click on any of the product photos at the bottom of this post to order)

"Tool Cards" featuring the Urban Underground Suite from Stampin' Up! with the Hexagon Dynamic embossing folder, by Patty Bennett

Lots of fun elements happening on these cards.. here are some highlights:

  • Hexagon Dynamic embossing folder (I used Silver Foil and Copper Foil sheets)
  • Urban Underground embellishments
  • Urban Underground designer paper
  • die cut tools, from the Nailed It bundle
  • ruler die cut with silver foil paper and Build It framelits
  • Top fold 4-1/4" x 5-1/2" cards are created with the Delightful Dijon and Basic Gray cardstock in the Urban Underground Cardstock pack

All Stampin' UP! Supplies available in my online store here, or click on any of the product photos at the bottom of this blog post to purchase from my online store.  Find the Urban Underground suite on pages 46 to 48 in the 2017 Occasions catalog!

Below: the Urban Underground embellishments are "self adhesive".. just pick them up off the sheet and place them on your project.. SUCH a perfect addition to these cards!

I mentioned these were Valentine cards for my hubby and son, so I added the "love you lots" sentiment stamped on Whisper White in Real Red ink and punched out with the Classic Label punch.   You could use this card design any time of year for the handyman or handy person in your life, and use any greeting or no greeting at all.

I think these would make perfect Father's Day cards as well!  Or a birthday card for your handyman!

I did 90% of the coloring with my Blender Pen, dipping it in Stampin' Up! ink, and coloring on the die cut images stamped on Stampin' Up! watercolor paper.  I did use the Aquapainter dipped in ink for the red hammer handle and for bits of Smoky Slate color on the wrench.

You can either use the ink refill (reinker) for each color and dip your blender pen or AquaPainter into the ink drops, or, squeeze the lid of each ink pad and dip your coloring tool into the puddle of ink in the lid.

Scroll down to see the color combo I used for these cards.

After coloring the tools and adding them to the cards, I grabbed my Clear Wink of Stella and colored over the wrench and the metal part of the screwdriver and they look really cool in person!

Timeless Textures Layered Card

We tried, and I think we succeeded!  Cindee and I were stamping one day with the Timeless Textures stamp set, new in the 2016 Occasions catalog from Stampin' UP! and we decided we wanted to try lots of layers and a collage look.

Do you love layers, collage techniques, speckles, grunge, script fonts, etc.? If so, you should try this stamp set!  The Timeless Textures set, found on pg 29 in the Occasions catalog (or HERE online) is an amazingly versatile set!

Timeless Textures collage stamp set from the Stampin' UP! 2016 Occasions catalog is great for layering, textures, collages, and that splattered grunge look! Paired with the Going Global set and Going Places paper stack, this is a great manly card! by Patty Bennett at pattystamps.com

In the Sahara Sand background, I stamped several of the Timeless Textures images, overlapping and in different colors.  I used Delightful Dijon, Lost Lagoon, and Smoky Slate.  I like using the color suggestions in the Stampin' UP! catalogs - they are listed under each Designer Paper Pack or Stack.  These color suggestions came from the Going Places Designer Paper Stack which we used in 4 places on this card.

We also layered a piece of 5/8" chevron ribbon on the card.  Oh, and don't forget you can make "banners" with your designer paper, either by clipping the strips with the Hexagon Punch or the Banner Triple Punch!

Oh, and the coolest part, which is hard to see in the photos, but it's there.. we splattered the card with the Gold Wink of Stella pen, by just hitting onto our finger and letting it splatter on the card.. it's so pretty in person!

We also used the Going Places Cardstock Pack for the card.. it makes it so easy when all the supplies are right there!  See all the product photos at the bottom of this blog post for easy ordering for these supplies.

The round stamp image was stamped with the new Gray Archival pad on Sahara Sand, and punched out with the 1" circle punch, then layered onto the 1-1/4" circle of paper from the Going Places stack.

The ribbon, even thought it's Bermuda Bay, we thought coordinated just fine with these supplies.  IT's NEW! You'll find it on pg 35 in the Occasions catalog, or below in the supplies.

I thought you might find it helpful to see a close up of the amazing patterns in the Going Places Designer Series paper stack!!  You will get 48 sheets in your 6x6 paper stack for ONLY $8.00!

Adventure Bound and Adventure Awaits projects

One of the fun ways that I try to stay connected with my Luv 2 Stamp Group (Stampin' Up! demonstrators in my downline), is to have "online meetings" with everyone across the country!  In March, we had 2 online Saturday meetings, and I had asked those who wished to participate in the handmade projects to purchase the Adventure Bound Paper Stack and Adventure Awaits stamp set. If they did, I sent them a goodie packet of supplies.  I sent out almost 50 packets and then they created projects using the packet, their stamp set and paper!

BELOW:  these are the 3 projects I created with the packet.. I'll be sharing the Luv 2 Stamp Group project with you later this week!

Above and below:  the 2 cards I created with the supply packet for our March event.

The card above is a standard 4-1/4"x5-1/2" card cut from a sheet of Naturals Ivory cardstock and layered with paper from the Adventure Bound paper stack.

The card below is a Crumb Cake Note Card, layered with papers from the Adventure Bound paper stack.

The greeting is stamped with StazOn ink on Vellum.

The flags were cut using some of the Adventure Bound paper stack and stapled on with our handheld stapler.  I always use my hexagon punch to punch the ends of the flags.. makes it so easy and perfect each time!

Below: I decorated a bag with some of the Adventure Bound paper and a Starburst die cut for the greeting.  Great "manly" gift bag, don't you think?

I sent out nearly 50 packets of similar supplies.. all had supplies to make 2 cards and one 3-D item.  I will be sharing the projects from my Luv 2 Stamp Group with you over the coming week!

In addition to the new Wood You Be Mine stamp set, I used several pieces of paper from the Adventure Bound Paper Stack... it is a GREAT paper stack, especially for anyone who likes the outdoors or for guy cards!  Find it on pg 40 of the Occasions catalog or HERE in my online store.

I cut around some of the logs above, and pieced it over another piece of paper from the same Adventure Bound paper stack... I like these 2 pieces together!

I tore pieces of the Adventure Bound paper stack for the inside of the cards.. I really like how both of the insides turned out!!

(UPDATE... they liked their cards!! :)  Yay!)

Ok, so back to the Hot Date...

I have been wanting one of these turning organizer trays for a LONG time.. I kept seeing them on Pinterest, and last week when I found out that they are available right here locally at Harbor Freight, I was .. shall we say EXCITED!!!!!!

For Valentine's Day we decided that we were taking our first day off since Christmas to go run errands and stop at Harbor Freight to get this tray!!

Valentines-harbor-freight-revovling-storage-tray

So yes, that was our HOT DATE for Valentine's day... a trip to Harbor Freight, a few other errands and lunch at Cocina Medina!

It was a very fun day off, and Eric and Jason LOVE Harbor Freight because it's nothing but tools and hardware!!  As I type this, they are both putting it together for me and I'll share pix of what I organize in it in a future blog post.

Hope you all had a great Valentine's day with those you love!

Another True Confession... (yes, I share these with you from time to time): I had to pull out my Stampin' Up! catalog to see if the Open Sea stamp set was really still current!! I knew I had kept it because it's awesome and I'll probably never sell it... but, YAY! it's still current so I used it!

Adventure-bound-paper-stack-card-set-stampin-up-6

Oh and if you are wondering about that GREAT thick twine.. it's from the Gratitude for Days kit... it's on the Clearance Rack here! Isn't it the perfect touch for this card!?

On the card above I used the Brick and Wood patterns in the paper stack and stamped "It's your Day" from the set called Big On You (pg 24 Occasions catalog) and then added the star clips from the Basic Hodgepodge clips assortment.

Another great "guy" birthday card.. this one is simply stamped onto the wood/pine pattern and put on to an Early Espresso folded card... could not be quicker.  The Greeting comes from the Balloon Bash stamp set on pg 13 in the Occasions catalog (stamped in Early Espresso ink).

Adventure Bound Masculine Card Set

Adventure Bound Card Set, Part 1 (see part 2 here)

Today I am sharing part 1 in a 2-part series of great

Manly Cards that are so quick and easy!

Adventure-bound-paper-stack-card-set-stampin-up

You need to have the great Adventure Bound Paper stack with these amazing photo nature images, and a pack or 2 of assorted cardstock and envelopes and voila, you can make yourself a whole stack of cards in no time!

Find the Adventure Bound Paper Stack on pg 40 in the Occasions catalog

or here in my online store.

These great Hodgepodge Basics clips are the perfect touch to add to these cards!

Adventure-bound-card-set-hodgepodge-clips

You can see from the photo tutorial above that I cut a slit in the paper with a craft knife and slid the arrow clip into the slit!  Cute!  Oh.. wait, these are manly cards... so I guess it's COOL, not cute!

Adventure-bound-paper-stack-card-set-stampin-up-2

On the cards above and below, I stamped on Cardstock vellum and added them to the cards.  For the super fun VW bug and trailer (from the Project Life Let's Get Away stamp set, pg 47 in the Occasions catalog) I stamped it on cardstock vellum but then decided to put it over Whisper White cardstock, so I clipped them together with a tiny mini paper clip from the hodgepodge basics clip assortment.

Below:  I scored this piece of vellum to wrap around the tree paper. I attached it on the back with Fast Fuse (behind the trees paper) so that I wouldn't have adhesive showing through the vellum on the front.  Sneaky, huh?

Above and Below: these 2 cards were stamped with the Adventure Awaits stamp set

SAVE 15% when you order the Bundle: Adventure Awaits set with the Adventure Bound paper see it on pg 40 in the Occasions catalog or HERE in my online store.

Adventure-bound-paper-stack-card-set-stampin-up-1

See the photo tutorial above for info on adding the arrow clip.

I cut a piece of the 1" Jute ribbon (pg 43 Occasions catalog) and added a strip to this card.. it seemed just the right touch to these textural looking papers.

Watercolor Paper Salt Technique Video by Patty Bennett

Today I have a Video Tutorial to share with you .. I love to create stamped projects with Watercolor Paper and my samples today feature a watercolor wash background with stamping over them.

As I explained in my video, my dad, Jim Burns, is an amazing Watercolor artist and although I inhereted his love of color, texture, nature, composition, etc., I cannot draw or paint freehand to save my life, so, I USE STAMPS! :)

Patty and dad 2012Yep, that's my dad!  He is a mega-talented watercolor artist! He has been painting since he was a child!  We are so blessed to have dozens of his paintings hanging in our home, and we love being able to enjoy his amazing talents!

Watch my video below for instructions on a fun and easy technique you can create using Watercolor Paper, ink pads and a clear acrylic block!

(if you are reading this in an email feed, please visit my blog view the video)

Thanks dad for your inspiration and sharing your talent with the world! You are amazing!  Happy Early Father's Day.. I love you!

These are the cards featured on my video.. each one is done with a watercolor wash background and stamped in black ink when the wash is dry.

"4 for Him, 4 for Her" Class Sample

Featuring the BOOTIFUL OCCASIONS & BLUE RIBBON stamp sets

from Stampin' Up!

  Bootiful kick up yer heels

Bootiful kick up yer heels 3In my recent "4 for Him, 4 for Her" class we used this super fun Cowboy Boot from the Bootiful Occasions stamp set (pg 50 in the Stampin' Up! Catalog).

I paired it with the BLUE RIBBON stamp set and some fun background papers... see below for full recipe of products used. (Don't you LOVE the pre-embossed Naturals Composition papers!?)

SCROLL DOWN

for an

AMAZING TIP!

 Bootiful festival of prints

We stamped the boot in Early Espresso ink on Crumb Cake cardstock, cut it out and then sponged the edges with Soft Suede ink for that real leather cowboy boot look!

It is layered onto circles and scallops... see below for sizes and paper used.

OK.. NOW.. HERE IS THE FANTASTIC TIP...

Sharon Howard figured this out in our class... this is how you can stamp this Blue Ribbon image and punch it out with the Scallop Circle punch without punching off the ribbon tails!

STEP 1: Stamp blue ribbon image and make 2 cuts with your paper snips as shown

Blue ribbon punch 1

STEP 2: Flip the 2-3/8" Scallop Circle punch upside down, and pull the "ribbons" up through the opening as shown:

Blue ribbon punch 2

STEP 3: Pull the ribbons and position so that the scallop lines up with the punch

Blue ribbon punch 3

STEP 4: Punch

Blue ribbon punch 4

STEP 5: take it out of the punch

Blue ribbon punch 5

STEP 6: Trim the ribbons by hand with your paper snips

Blue ribbon punch 6

Isn't that FANTABULOUS!!?? Thank you Sharon!

Notice in the Festival of Prints paper pack, one side looks very Christmasy and the other side has great masculine patterns... GREAT for this Cowboy card!
